Ten Interview Techniques

I threw my top nine podcast interview techniques into the ring a few months ago. Now Donna Papacosta at Trafcom News is throwing her top ten in for consideration.

Strangely, I don't find a lot of correlation between our two lists although I certainly agree that Donna's tips are great. The two tips I like the best go hand in hand:
  • Put your subject at ease, especially if he's not used to being interviewed, and
  • ...be sure they know you will edit the file.
Most of the people I've interviewed have been the 'right' people in the sense that they're used to being the voice of the company. Sometimes, though, the person I want to speak to is a back room tech and he or she may not be as used to being poked and prodded.

in any case, making your interviewee comfortable goes a long way to making the show better and generating good karma between you and the company.
