Jeremiah Owyang has noted that IBM Corp (NYSE:) is embracing podcasting and explains the benefits of doing so. There are a handful of posts each day from various blogs that hype the benefits of corporate podcasting, but many of them ring hollow. In fact, most of them overuse the concept that podcasting brings customers and companies closer together in much the same way that we all thought everyone was using a podcatcher until the polls starting showing otherwise. Jeremiah's post actually brings some concrete benefits to the board, such as:

  • Thought leadership
  • Knowledge sharing
  • SEO domination
  • Brand lift
I like the concept of thought leadership. I think that was a relatively unknown term outside of academic circles before the dawn of citizen media. However, now that everyone can speak, we're finding a lot of leaders and just plain old interesting people right in our midst.

Good job on IBM for encouraging that behaviour.
