Forever Geek has posted a pretty big guide on podcasting and podcast production. I enjoyed reading it and I got a great buzz word out of it. I've been trying to figure out a good way to describe the citizen media paradigm in that we create and consume our own media. I don't know how I missed it, but apparently the word for such a beast is 'prosumer'.
I love buzz words.
A podcast is different from a regular downloaded audio recording or streaming audio, however, in that the content-distribution is automatically done through RSS (really simple syndication / rich site summary). For instance, a regular podcast subscriber would expect the audio recording to be automatically transferred to his computer (and portable media player, if available) once there is a new edition or episode of his subscribed programmes available.
Sounds good to me.
The section on creating a podcast is quite brief and doesn't provide any of the tips or tricks that I would expect from such an article, but it will suffice to get would-be podcasters on the right road.
There are more and more of these guides popping up all over the Internet and while many of them leave a lot to be desired (I'm not saying that about this one), any noise is good noise and I always welcome the publicity.
