I typically listen to podcasts all day on Fridays. When you listen to 10 podcasts in a day, you tend to start to notice things they have in common. One thing that I've been noticing lately is that many podcast show names and their domain names don't really jive.
Who cares, right? Well, I do. If the name of the show is Jon's Podcast then the url shouldn't be www.hackersunite.com. It's hard to remember and you want to make life as easy as possible for your listeners.
If you're running a corporate podcast then it should be easy enough for listeners to go to the corporate website (which I hope is suitably named) and grab the show or show notes from there. However, you might want to make it even easier by putting a podcast subdomain up. Instead of making listeners go to the corporate main page and sift through the links to find the podcast, why not let them go directly to http://podcast.somename.com? It's intuitive and since the site will be dedicated specifically to the podcast, the subscribe links and show notes can be front and centre.
If you're just starting out a podcast, do some domain name searching while you're brainstorming show names. Nothing would be worse than picking your ideal show name, get up and running and then discover that the url you want is taken by some questionable escort agency in Vegas.
