Obviously, I spend an awful lot of time reading, writing, and podcasting about podcasting. Every day I read three or four articles that contain a definition of the word podcast. Every time I see that, my insides scream "Enough! We all get it! Defining podcasting is like the instructions on shampoo bootles - time to stop!". But that's just not true. I'm only sick of it because I live and breathe this stuff.
I know that podcasting is an utter infant right now because of where blogging is. Blogging and podcasting are following a similar trail and even though blogs are an entrenched form of media now, not a single week goes by that several of my tech savvy peers will ask me what a blog is. If these developers, engineers, and administrators don't even know what a 10-year old media is, podcasting isn't even on their horizon.
What really interests me about podcasting, though, is wondering if anybody saw it coming. I mean, even Curry and Winer who made the thing a reality probably had no idea if it would catch on lie this. As for the rest of us - I can't see us seeing this thing coming. I honestly can't remember why I got into podcasting, although I did it with a leap right into The Podcast Network's fold.
And even more exciting - if we didn't see it happening to start with - where it is going?
