I'm currently on Vancouver Island on a little vacation and getting married. I thought that it would be fun to leave you with some thoughts I have about podcasting. This is one is a series...
Statistics Are Unimportant
Many podcaster were bloggers before turning on the mic. One of the old mantras in the blogging world is "stop staring at your stats and produce content". This is very true of podcasting as well.
We all want to know how many listeners we have. That's natural, but the only reason you have listeners at all is because you deliver quality content. That's where the focus should be - not on the numbers.
I'm not suggesting that you ignore your stats, but keeping tabs on them throughout the day isn't healthy and provides no value. Check them periodically after each show to see what worked and what didn't. Keep providing good content and those numbers will go up, never fear.
