'Tis a strange world we live in sometimes. Just a week or so ago I posed the question: "if bandwidth wasn't a consideration, would you mobilecatch (subscribe and listen to podcasts on a mobile device)?".
What I had in mind at the time was some system whereby listeners could us a cellular phone to dial in somewhere and listen to podcasts. Such a system isn't exactly podcatching since there's no subscription or feed involved, but I can look past that. A system like this would also cost airtime, but that's much more widely available and cheaper than data - at least here in Canada.
Well lo' and behold, Nerd Vittles has developed the Gabcast Player for Asterick that allows listeners to do just that: dial up a number, and listen to Gabcast-hosted podcasts.
Now, this isn't a hosted service or anything. You'll have to set up your own Asterick server. The good news is that it's free and relatively simple (or so the instructions say) to set up.
Now we just need someone to host it for non-technical users...
If this Asterisk solution takes you more than 30 minutes to set up, it's because you fell asleep in the middle of the install.
