That all changes with the advent of the Stop Rokkasho podcast. Produced by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, the podcast is a "response to the opening of the Rokkasho nuclear reprocessing plant and the associated dangers that go along with the plant’s operation".
The Rokkasho-mura reprocessing plant in Japan’s Aomori Prefecture opened for testing on March 31st, 2006. Less than two weeks later, in the early morning hours of April 11, 40 liters of radioactive water containing plutonium and uranium were spilled inside the plant.
Most effective activism depends on large number of people to turn out oat protests or sign petitions. A global issue like nuclear waste is a concern to all, but when a geographically -spcecific incident like the on e in Japan occurs, it might be hard to garner the requisite number of people. Podcasting is a great method to harness the power of the globe and increase those nembers past the immediate area.
