 ID3 Magazine is a reasonably new entry in the podcast sidelines industry. It's kind of a novel idea (excuse the pun) to introduce a print magazine for an industry that is so not about print or magazines or, indeed, traditional media at all. I'd like to get my hands on a sample copy or two, but at $28US a year, I think I'll pass for now. I'll wait until I see it in my local Chapters and then pick up a single copy to see if I like it. ID3 has some interesting things on their website, though. This week they're running a poll and even though there are only 33 replies at the time I wrote this, the results are pretty predictable. 16% of respondents (the top answer) were concerned about the proper use of music. After that, it's pretty much a dead heat for concerns surrounding the naming of the podcast, collaboration agreements, privacy issues, and avoiding defamation. Podsafe music has always been on podcasters minds. I'm still not sure if the RIAA and CRIA will eventually come to grips with how the new world listens to music, or if artists will just leave their labels altogether to get the exposure that their labels won't allow them to get under traditional recording arrangements. But here's a rule of thumb for that 16% of you. If you heard the song on the radio - you can't use in on your podcast. Simple.
