Straight up - I put that title in to make you read this entry. It worked, didn't it? Maybe it will even be worth your time :)
It's interesting to watch the follow on wave from the recent Nielsen survey on podcasting. Many people (myself included) think it's pretty much a waste of 5 minutes to read, but others are finding valuable stuff in it. The thing that's cracking me up this morning is the plethora of "Trekkies and Apple Users Top Podcast Users" posts around the Internet.
Personally, I don't believe anything this report says. Its credibility is completely shot in the first paragraph when Nielsen compares podcast listeners with blog authors.
Now many bloggers are referring to the Trekkies and Apple user stats, but even that is pretty much a no-brainer, isn't it? Did we need a survey to tell us that techno-geeks are the early (and therefore still the largest) group of adopters? Did we need a survey to tell us that the company who pulled podcasting into the 21st century is still driving the boat?
No. We didn't. But at least Nielsen can say that they're aware of podcasting and have done a survey on it. That should impress their clients.
